United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley Makes Your Caring Count

Giving to the United Way magnifies your ability to touch the lives of many more people than you thought you could.

How your gift can make a difference

$1.00 a week (two cans of soda)
Will provide a child of a low-income family with two days of high quality day care AND two senior adults with escorted-transportation service for an appointment.

$3.00 a week (cappuccino and danish)
Will provide a pair of glasses for a sight impaired person AND a home delivered meal for 12 seniors.

$4.25 a week (bargain matinee at cinema)
Will provide matching a child with a school-based mentor and supervising of that relationship for nine months AND provide four food orders from a food pantry.

$10.00 a week (a large deluxe pizza)
Will provide a patient with insulin syringes for one year; a troubled youth with six counseling sessions AND a needy youth with a week at summer scout camp.

$20.00 per week (a month on the Internet)
Will provide two children of a low income family with quality day care for two months; provide a sight impaired person with a pair of glasses; AND provide an individual with a prescription due to an unexpected illness.

$40.00 per week (a round of golf)
Will provide a patient with Ventalin Inhalers for one year; match child with a school-based mentor and supervise that relationship for nine months; provide six counseling sessions for a troubled family; provide a pair of glasses for a sight impaired person; provide a needy youth with a YMCA membership for one year; provide a senior with a nutritious meal at a congregate site for one year; AND provide assistance on rent and utilities for a needy family.

You can help the United Way through your annual workplace campaign, a direct contribution to the United Way office using Visa or Mastercard by calling the United Way or remembering United Way in your estate planning. You may also volunteer your time to help at a local agency or serve on a committee or campaign team. Another way to help is to organize a fundraiser, such as a car wash, with the proceeds going to the United Way.

Where your money goes

Here in the Upper Ohio Valley the United Way raises $785,000 annually. Of each dollar you give, 85 cents helps people in need. The Better Business Bureau's Philanthropic Advisory Service report that overheads between 35 and 50 cents acceptable for charities. Ours is only 15 cents.
